When to Use the Purple Haze Dry Fly
The Purple Haze excels in a variety of conditions, working well as both a specific mayfly imitation and a general searching pattern.
- Mayfly Hatches: This pattern is a go-to for matching various mayfly hatches, including Blue Wing Olives (BWOs), Green Drakes, and Mahogany Duns.
- Prospecting/Searching: When no specific hatch is occurring, tie on a Purple Haze in a larger size (#10 or #12) as a highly effective prospecting pattern to cover water and find active fish.
- Challenging Conditions: The purple color works exceptionally well in low light, on cloudy days, or in clear, heavily fished waters where a subtle edge is needed.
