When to Use the Parachute Madam X
This dry fly is your go-to pattern when covering water, especially during the summer and fall. It is a productive "searching" fly when no specific hatch is apparent and can be effectively presented in various ways.
- Terrestrial Season (Summer/Fall): The PMX is an excellent imitation for a variety of terrestrials, including hoppers and grasshoppers, as well as cicadas.
- Stonefly Imitation: Its large, buggy appearance makes it a perfect choice for imitating adult stoneflies in both riffles and pockets.
- Caddis Imitation: In its smaller sizes, the PMX can effectively mimic an adult caddis fly.
- Dry-Dropper Rig: The PMX's high buoyancy makes it an ideal indicator fly when running a nymph dropper underneath, especially in faster currents.
